He made them breakfast
There is a small section of the Bible, in the book of John, chapter twenty-one. There are several disciples who have gone out fishing together. Here is the passage up to verse 14, notice verse 12:

Epilogue: Jesus Appears to Seven Disciples
1 Later, Jesus appeared again to the disciples beside the Sea of Galilee. This is how it happened. 2 Several of the disciples were there—Simon Peter, Thomas (nicknamed the Twin), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples.
3 Simon Peter said, “I’m going fishing.”
“We’ll come, too,” they all said. So they went out in the boat, but they caught nothing all night.
4 At dawn Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn’t see who he was. 5 He called out, “Fellows, have you caught any fish?”
“No,” they replied.
6 Then he said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you’ll get some!” So they did, and they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it.
7 Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, “It’s the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic (for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and headed to shore. 8 The others stayed with the boat and pulled the loaded net to the shore, for they were only about a hundred yards[d] from shore. 9 When they got there, they found breakfast waiting for them—fish cooking over a charcoal fire, and some bread.
10 “Bring some of the fish you’ve just caught,” Jesus said. 11 So Simon Peter went aboard and dragged the net to the shore. There were 153 large fish, and yet the net hadn’t torn.
12 “Now come and have some breakfast!” Jesus said. None of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Then Jesus served them the bread and the fish. 14 This was the third time Jesus had appeared to his disciples since he had been raised from the dead.

It would be so easy for me to gloss over this section of Scripture, and maybe not even get a ton from it. But it is Living, and therefore, on one occasion the part about Jesus making breakfast stood out to me.
I guess if you've ever made breakfast for someone, your family, a friend staying at your home perhaps you can relate. In my experience, whenever I've made breakfast for people, it usually involves more than getting a few cereal boxes out of the cupboard, grabbing the milk out of the fridge, and setting it out on the table. Usually it means there is time, thought, and effort into preparing the meal, mindful of the people it's being made for. Whenever I've done it, it means I get up earlier sacrificing a bit of sleep. It involves making the coffee, setting the table, etc. I can't tell you how nice it is to be served a nice breakfast in the morning! I've been the recipient of many.
Anyhow I guess it was such a small detail to the passage, but I was so in awe of Jesus when I read it. He demonstrates such thoughtfulness, such caring and love towards his friends. He had just been through a tremendous experience in the previous days, and now, he's standing on the shore beckoning the disciples to come in from fishing to sit and eat with him...a meal he prepared for them. Not to mention the great haul of fish they had just received!
What an encouraging and delightful surprise it must have been for them. What an encouraging and delightful surprise it was for me to come across this passage.
Be Blessed,
Leah <><
